Our 2025 Headlines

As the curtains close on 2025, Cambridge Retrofit Hub is feeling the warmth of support we are gaining from communities across Cambridgeshire and we are energised for some fresh new projects we are rolling out across 2026.

During this past year we have successfully won grant funding from South Cambs and Cambridge City which helps us to deliver our training and energy advice services. Our core team has grown to include permentant part-time staff who support our retrofit advice services and our business administration, and we have welcomed new volunteers to our Home Energy Advisors and Training team. Here's a quick round up of our news from the past year.

Not-for-profit retrofit services

Our not-for-profit retrofit services, offering homeowners expert retrofit advice, whole house retrofit plans and deep retrofit design and quality assurance, are developing and we are working with clients to realise their whole house retrofit dreams. Home energy advice

Our trained Home Energy Advisors run a home energy advice stall, outside the Cambridge Room Repair Cafe (see picture above) on the first Saturday of the month. We aim to support tenants, landlords and homeowners to think about the ways they could make their homes more comfortable to live in (warmer in winter/cooler in summer), healthier (better ventilated and resistant to mould growth) and more economical to run.

This is a free and informal offering for the whole community. During 2026 we hope to take this stall on the road and recreate them in more communities across Cambridge and South Cambs, thanks to the support we have received from our Zero Carbon Communities grant. If you would like to invite us to your local event or discuss setting up a regular advice stall in your community please talk to us at hello@cambridgeretrofithub.org. See our webpage for dates and locations.

We have also started to pilot energy advice home visits and offer energy advice to more people, including students, at community and organisational events.

Training Hub

Our Zero Carbon House near Cambridge station will be an education and training hub. Work on this deep retrofit continued in 2025 with the installation of the MVHR (Mechanical Ventiallation and Heat Recovery system) and a rainwater harvesting system.

With financial support from Cambridge City's Sustainable Cities Grant some training and information events were run at the house, with more coming soon. You can view a recording of the Rainwater Harvesting Talk (image below) here: https://youtu.be/AFxdtTUiFY4

Future developments will see the garage become a training workshop to offer courses for trades, and our training rigs will be accessible here and on location.
